My SOS Tool/Shortcut — SOS Express

I have always had a passion for ending human trafficking. Almost by accident, I created what seemed to be a potential live safer when I was tinkering around with a iPhone shortcut I made around February 2022. It quickly morphed into a SOS shortcut disguised as a food deliver app that would notify a friend that you are in trouble, or call an Uber for help in secret.

I called this tool DoorDash Express (Now called SOS Express) and made a video explaining it on TikTok. It quickly went viral with currently over 4.4 million views, over 11,000 comments, 250,000 saves, and over 100,000 downloads.

Due to it’s wild popularity, it has been featured on publications such as 9to5Mac, DaysTech, and more. It has also been a catalyst that helped me partner with TheTeenProject to help further their efforts to end human trafficking.

To create this tool, I used iPhone automations which has it’s own “coding” logic. In this case, we want to execute actions based on what the user inputs. Because it’s a SOS tool designed for victims of domestic abuse, human trafficking, etc — the shortcut is disguised as a food delivery app to confuse any on lookers.

The user proceeds to order “food”, with each menu item doing something different to protect you. One item will order an Uber in the background and disguise the Uber notifications as a food delivery notification, which really is the Uber arrival time.

I am so happy that it went viral, because as one of the commenters noted — if this saves even one life, it’s so, so worth it.
